It’s a Wonderful Life…
22/12/09
The snow is continuing to fall out there and we’re about ready for a few days off beside a warm fire. We’ll be back in the new year with news of a new release and lots more shows. In the meantime, click the link below to download Skibunny’s Christmas song “It’s a Wonderful Life“, recorded a couple of years ago especially for BBC Radio Ulster’s ATL show, and then later ended up on a Japanese label Second Royal’s “Winter” compilation.
Merry Christmas from Team Skibunny, and a Happy New Year!
Oppenheimer take a final bow…
15/12/09
Our good friends OPPENHEIMER will play their last ever gig on Saturday 19th December at The Spring and Airbrake in Belfast, supported by SKIBUNNY, NAKATOMI TOWERS and DJ Rigsy. We have a long history with these guys both personally and professionally, Tanya booked their first live show and sings backing vocals on both of their amazing albums. Oppenheimer were the first band that SKIBUNNY ever remixed, a remix that is still a big favourite today and was performed live at the Belfast Film Festival last year. In their announcement about the split they say “Ultimately, to be in any band you allow the band to consume you, becoming every particle of your existence, every aspect of your being, every thought that wakes you up early and every task that keeps you up late at night. The reward for such dedication and commitment, not to mention the hardship that goes hand in hand with making music for a living is the unrivalled joy and honour that fills your mind, body and soul by getting to do all the things that you can. The moment this joy falters, rocks or is jolted out of existence, the struggle is of no consequence or purpose.” We love Rocky and Shaun, and wish them well in whatever they plan to do next….
But first, we have one hell of a party to get through!

September update…
09/09/09 (spooky!)
Since the last update we have been busy finishing off the album, doing more remixes, went to our good friend Jim’s wedding (Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer - check him out!) and even found time for holidays (and……relax…..)! It’s been a pretty exciting month all in all. There’s a couple of new tracks on the myspace/facebook. Plus we can now tell you that one of the album tracks is a duet with the wonderful Mr.James Chapman from Maps. Tanya was lucky enough to be invited to their pre-tour rehearsals in Rosyth, where they drank tea and discussed the awesomeness of “Stereo” by Spooky (TUNE!) Anyway, wait till you hear this duet, it is SO lovely… it’ll make you want to hug people. And who doesn’t love a good hug, right?
We’ve just completed a remix for one of our favourite new bands from the US, The Shakeltons. They rock.
Speaking of the US, we’re off to New York in October for CMJ (20-24th Oct) stay tuned for full details. We had such a great time there in March, can’t wait to get back again.
But first, it’s BESTIVAL time! We’ll be there all weekend soaking up the funtimes, SO many great bands, Casiokids, Maps, Passion Pit, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, DJ Yoda, the list goes on… and on SUNDAY 13th we DJ on the MAIN STAGE at 6.45pm, plus a few earlier sets on the BIG TOP STAGE from 1.10pm. If you’re there, give us a wave, buy us a drink, let’s have super-hangout sessions. Up for it?
HELLS YEAH….
August update… album news… more remixes… BBC Radio… etc etc
10/8/09
So, our gig with MOONUNIT was lots of fun. It was recorded live for BBC Radio Ulster’s Across The Line show, and will be broadcast TONIGHT from 8pm, or you can listen online for the next 7 days…
CLICK CLICK
There’s been a lot of festival action, we played CASTLEPALOOZA Festival in Ireland, a great wee festival in a gorgeous setting, and we got to see Belfast’s NOT SQUARES, who are doing good things all over the UK right now. Then last weekend we played at FEILE AN PHOBAIL, supporting the Stereo MCs which was fun too. Tanya DJ’d at T IN THE PARK (her highlight was M83 for sure) and we could also be found drinking/dancing at ROCKNESS , THE BIG CHILL and WICKERMAN. And we still have BESTIVAL to look forward to, where we DJ on the AFTERBURNER stage, SUNDAY 13th SEPT!
We just finished remixes for THEM:YOUTH and ROGUES, both bands are on the awesome DIRTY BOOTS label, release info coming soon.
The SKIBUNNY album is 95% done, with ALL but 2 tracks being mastered this week, hope to get some tracks up on myspace/facebook etc by the end of the week. We are so excited to have it finished, and can’t wait to tell you about the 2 (and maybe 3) amazing guest vocalists we’re working with!
In the meantime, for anyone heading to EDINBURGH during the FRINGE FESTIVAL, Tanya can be found DJing at CABARET VOLTAIRE (SPEAKEASY) every Thursday night in August, alongside Canadian DJs THE BEARDS OF CANADA. 5am Festival license… help…!

More SXSW reviews!

BBC Radio 1 Introducing with Huw Stephens
“For the second hot day of hot music busy-ness, I start with Northern Ireland’s Skibunny; promoters, remixers, dj’s and a mighty fine band. They make a kind of disco-shoegaze sound, exhubarant and exploding into feisty tunes that sound good. Later, General Fiasco and Fighting with Wire will play, showcasing the wealth of NI’s current new bands.”
The Irish Times, On the Record blog
“I’ve known of Mark and Tanya for many years as Belfast indie club DJs and promoters, but didn’t realise until recently that they were also two-thirds of a band called Skibunny. Fine, top-drawer crunchy electro-rock with big choruses which shout in your ear about a party going on in a house six streets away.”
Toronto Independent Music awards ‘must see’ bands!

New Remixes for 2009!
29/01/09
We’re currently starting/in the middle of/about to remix two amazing bands. The beautiful Dag For Dag (Saddle Creek, and pictured below) and the thundering And So I Watch You From Afar (Smalltown America). Usually we only use the acapellas of a track for a remix but in the case of ASIWYFA, given that they’re mainly instrumental, we’re contemplaiting using their cowbell track as well. More cowbell!(or in 2009 should that be less cowbell?)
