DECEMBER news!

12/12/2010

The snow seems to have stopped in Edinburgh, for now, we hear it’s gonna get worse again though, wrap up warm people! We had a fantastic week in Ireland last month, 7 shows in 6 days, thanks to EVERYONE who came along, it was awesome craic! On returning to Edinburgh we played our biggest headline Scottish show to date at Edinburgh’s Bongo Club, thanks so much to Devil Disco for having us! Then we had some new friends to stay, in the shape of California based band La Sera. After bonding at a Ratatat/Vampire Weekend aftershow party, the following 3 days snowed-in in Edinburgh resulted in Tanya joining La Sera on stage for a punk-rock version of ‘No Diggity’ at their sold-out Edinburgh gig opening for Jenny & Jonny. FUN!

And so we look forward to Christmas once again - a couple of events for your festive diaries:

Sat 18th Dec: EDINBURGH, DJ set, Wolf Party @ The Store (formerly GRV)

Thurs 23rd Dec: EDINBURGH, Annual Christmas Songwriters Club @ Leith Dockers Club, all proceeds go to charity, all performers playing original christmas songs!

News coming soon of new single, UK tour and Canadian/US dates!

Happy Christmas everyone! xxx

Coughing, Sneezing, Gigging, and… Vegas?

22/10/2010

Wow, it’s properly cold out there now isn’t it? Well we squeezed as much fun as we possibly could out of our Indian summer, hope you did too. Our debut album was released last month, we had TWO amazing launch parties, one was on a BOAT, Tanya went to the Matador 21 gigs in Vegas where she drank too much tequila and accidently married Ted Leo*, we played some shows in the very very north of Scotland with Stanley Odd, then Tanya got a bad dose of the flu and was forced to stay in bed and do nothing. Now said flu is pretty much gone and it’s business as usual at Skibunny HQ, hurrah! So here’s the round up of stuff coming up…

Sat 23rd Oct - EDINBURGH, Hidden Door Festival (DJ set @ 11pm)
Wed 17th Nov - BELFAST, Trenchfoot @ Lavery’s
Thurs 18th Nov - BALLYNAHINCH, Pure Savage @ Cloisters
Fri 19th Nov - DUBLIN, Tower Records in-store (1pm)
Fri 19th Nov - DUBLIN, The Good Social (w/ CRYSTAL FIGHTERS)
Sat 20th Nov - STRABANE, Dice Rileys
Sun 21st Nov - DERRY (details to follow!)
Mon 22nd Nov - GALWAY, Roisin Dubh
Sat 27th Nov - EDINBURGH, Devil Disco @The Bongo Club

More shows will be added as confirmed!

We have a new track “Black Dark, White Light” included in the latest TEN TRACKS mp3 bundle, where you get 10 tracks for just £1, you can’t really argue with that!
Don’t forget our album is out now, get your copy here, they ship WORLDWIDE and FREE shipping in the UK!
And just for fun, here’s Guided By Voices, live in Vegas!

*Not really, of course.

SUMMER IN THE CITY…

16/8/2010

My word, I just realised how long it’s been since we updated this website. I guess in these times of social networking and, ahem, Web 2.0 technology (yes, I really called it that) it’s easy to forget to update everything. If only there were enough hours in the day… So what’s been happening then? Well, we went on tour, played a bunch of festivals and are currently finishing off some tracks for the LP bonus disc.

News coming very soon of the album launch gigs and tour and more festivals and other exciting stuff.
I promise to try harder to keep this up to date, but you can always come hang out with us on TWITTER or FACEBOOK or MYSPACE innit.

It’s a Wonderful Life…

22/12/09

The snow is continuing to fall out there and we’re about ready for a few days off beside a warm fire. We’ll be back in the new year with news of a new release and lots more shows. In the meantime, click the link below to download Skibunny’s Christmas song “It’s a Wonderful Life“, recorded a couple of years ago especially for BBC Radio Ulster’s ATL show, and then later ended up on a Japanese label Second Royal’s “Winter” compilation.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Merry Christmas from Team Skibunny, and a Happy New Year!

Oppenheimer take a final bow…

15/12/09

Our good friends OPPENHEIMER will play their last ever gig on Saturday 19th December at The Spring and Airbrake in Belfast, supported by SKIBUNNY, NAKATOMI TOWERS and DJ Rigsy. We have a long history with these guys both personally and professionally, Tanya booked their first live show and sings backing vocals on both of their amazing albums. Oppenheimer were the first band that SKIBUNNY ever remixed, a remix that is still a big favourite today and was performed live at the Belfast Film Festival last year. In their announcement about the split they say “Ultimately, to be in any band you allow the band to consume you, becoming every particle of your existence, every aspect of your being, every thought that wakes you up early and every task that keeps you up late at night. The reward for such dedication and commitment, not to mention the hardship that goes hand in hand with making music for a living is the unrivalled joy and honour that fills your mind, body and soul by getting to do all the things that you can. The moment this joy falters, rocks or is jolted out of existence, the struggle is of no consequence or purpose.” We love Rocky and Shaun, and wish them well in whatever they plan to do next….

But first, we have one hell of a party to get through!

The SKIBUNNY mixtape vaults…

14/11/09

One of our TWITTER friends was asking about our old SKIBUNNY mixtapes, so we’ve gone into the vaults and pulled out the very first one! Our “ROCK STEADY” mix was played by Rob Da Bank on his BBC RADIO 1 show “The Blue Room” on Saturday 8th July 2006, where Mr Da Bank described it as “absolutely wicked” and an “excellent mix” and saying that “anyone who can mix Sister Sledge alongside Modest Mouse, Mocky and Lyrics Born deserves to win in my opinion.

September update…

09/09/09 (spooky!)

Since the last update we have been busy finishing off the album, doing more remixes, went to our good friend Jim’s wedding (Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer - check him out!) and even found time for holidays (and……relax…..)! It’s been a pretty exciting month all in all. There’s a couple of new tracks on the myspace/facebook. Plus we can now tell you that one of the album tracks is a duet with the wonderful Mr.James Chapman from Maps. Tanya was lucky enough to be invited to their pre-tour rehearsals in Rosyth, where they drank tea and discussed the awesomeness of “Stereo” by Spooky (TUNE!) Anyway, wait till you hear this duet, it is SO lovely… it’ll make you want to hug people. And who doesn’t love a good hug, right?

We’ve just completed a remix for one of our favourite new bands from the US, The Shakeltons. They rock.

Speaking of the US, we’re off to New York in October for CMJ (20-24th Oct) stay tuned for full details. We had such a great time there in March, can’t wait to get back again.

But first, it’s BESTIVAL time! We’ll be there all weekend soaking up the funtimes, SO many great bands, Casiokids, Maps, Passion Pit, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, DJ Yoda, the list goes on… and on SUNDAY 13th we DJ on the MAIN STAGE at 6.45pm, plus a few earlier sets on the BIG TOP STAGE from 1.10pm. If you’re there, give us a wave, buy us a drink, let’s have super-hangout sessions. Up for it?

HELLS YEAH….

August update… album news… more remixes… BBC Radio… etc etc

10/8/09

So, our gig with MOONUNIT was lots of fun. It was recorded live for BBC Radio Ulster’s Across The Line show, and will be broadcast TONIGHT from 8pm, or you can listen online for the next 7 days…
CLICK CLICK

There’s been a lot of festival action, we played CASTLEPALOOZA Festival in Ireland, a great wee festival in a gorgeous setting, and we got to see Belfast’s NOT SQUARES, who are doing good things all over the UK right now. Then last weekend we played at FEILE AN PHOBAIL, supporting the Stereo MCs which was fun too. Tanya DJ’d at T IN THE PARK (her highlight was M83 for sure) and we could also be found drinking/dancing at ROCKNESS , THE BIG CHILL and WICKERMAN. And we still have BESTIVAL to look forward to, where we DJ on the AFTERBURNER stage, SUNDAY 13th SEPT!

We just finished remixes for THEM:YOUTH and ROGUES, both bands are on the awesome DIRTY BOOTS label, release info coming soon.

The SKIBUNNY album is 95% done, with ALL but 2 tracks being mastered this week, hope to get some tracks up on myspace/facebook etc by the end of the week. We are so excited to have it finished, and can’t wait to tell you about the 2 (and maybe 3) amazing guest vocalists we’re working with!

In the meantime, for anyone heading to EDINBURGH during the FRINGE FESTIVAL, Tanya can be found DJing at CABARET VOLTAIRE (SPEAKEASY) every Thursday night in August, alongside Canadian DJs THE BEARDS OF CANADA. 5am Festival license… help…!

Free download: Yea Big & Kid Static & The Mae Shi “Run to the Facts (Skibunny’s undisputed truth remix)”

24/6/09

So here’s what happened: we already loved THE MAE SHI’s “Run to your Grave” and you may have seen Tanya joining the guys on stage a few times in Scotland, Ireland and even in the US (scroll down for video!). Anyway, this record was a split 7″, the flip side being a sweet remix by YEA BIG & KID STATIC called “Run to the Facts”

At SXSW in March 2009, Skibunny went along to see The Mae Shi play at Mohawks patio and were lucky enough to see the remix version played live, with Kid Static on the mic. So we got a chance to meet him and introduce ourselves. A week later, back in the UK, we got an email from him, asking if we wanted to remix their remix, and this is the result…

More SXSW reviews!

24/03/09

BBC Radio 1 Introducing with Huw Stephens

“For the second hot day of hot music busy-ness, I start with Northern Ireland’s Skibunny; promoters, remixers, dj’s and a mighty fine band. They make a kind of disco-shoegaze sound, exhubarant and exploding into feisty tunes that sound good. Later, General Fiasco and Fighting with Wire will play, showcasing the wealth of NI’s current new bands.”

The Irish Times, On the Record blog

“I’ve known of Mark and Tanya for many years as Belfast indie club DJs and promoters, but didn’t realise until recently that they were also two-thirds of a band called Skibunny. Fine, top-drawer crunchy electro-rock with big choruses which shout in your ear about a party going on in a house six streets away.”

New Remixes for 2009!

29/01/09

We’re currently starting/in the middle of/about to remix two amazing bands. The beautiful Dag For Dag (Saddle Creek, and pictured below) and the thundering And So I Watch You From Afar (Smalltown America). Usually we only use the acapellas of a track for a remix but in the case of ASIWYFA, given that they’re mainly instrumental, we’re contemplaiting using their cowbell track as well. More cowbell!(or in 2009 should that be less cowbell?)
